Milano notte
Milano e' da tempo la mia Citta', qui ho scelto di vivere e lavorare. Per sentirmi bene ho affittato casa nel centro storico, cercandola spaziosa e con grandi finestre.
Quando si fa notte fonda, a volte, cammino per le vie del centro portandomi la macchina fotografica gia agganciata al treppiedi. I rumori insistenti del fervore produttivo alla luce del sole restano solo un ricordo. La citta' brilla sotto i lampioni ed appare dal buio come vestita di nuovo. La patina di smog e polvere scura si rende invisibile. Le automobili parcheggiate un poco ovunque sembrano rilassate e pulite a riflettere la citta' illuminata.

Milan by night
Milan has long been my City, here I chose to live and work.
To feel good I rented a house in the old town centre, spacious and with large windows.
When it is night, sometimes walking along the streets of the centre I bring with me my camera already attached to the tripod. The persisting noises of the production fervour in sunlight are now only a memory. The city shines under the lights and appears from the dark as newly dressed.
The coat of dark dust and smog becomes invisible. The cars parked a bit everywhere look like relaxed and clean just to reflect the Shining City.

Chi e' Gianni Pezzani
Nato a Colorno nel 1951, Gianni Pezzani si avvicina alla fotografia grazie al padre, che dipinge e fotografa. Dagli studi in Scienze Agrarie trae invece quegli elementi di chimica che riprendera' nel lavoro di camera oscura.
La sua attivita' di fotografo prende avvio da alcune ricerche, prima con vedute di Firenze, e in seguito nella bassa parmense, elaborando i primi viraggi selettivi. Questa particolare operazione, una sorta di terza via tra il colore della fotografia contemporanea e la pratica del bianco e nero, porta in breve tempo il suo lavoro all'attenzione della critica.
Nel 1979 Lanfranco Colombo ospita la sua prima mostra personale (Galleria Il Diaframma-Canon di Milano) e, nello stesso anno, Pezzani dona un primo nucleo di immagini al CSAC dell'Universita' di Parma. Nel 1981 e' selezionato dalle edizioni Time-Life tra i sei piu' importanti fotografi emergenti dell'anno, mentre l'annuario Photography Year pubblica un suo portfolio e riceve l'incarico da Giacinto Gnudi di eseguire un lavoro di libera interpretazione sulla citta' di Pisa. A partire da questo periodo, inoltre, espone assiduamente nelle manifestazioni sulla fotografia di Arles, alla biennale di Sofja ed Atene.
Nel 1982 Gianni Pezzani compie un viaggio negli USA, da cui nasce una serie di immagini che vengono esposte alla Galleria Civica di Modena (1984). Nello stesso anno partecipa a una mostra itinerante sulla fotografia italiana che gira le maggiori gallerie della Cina Popolare.
Nel 1983 espone alla Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Suzzara la serie I Luoghi dell'immaginario. Contemporaneamente collabora con Vogue, iniziando un'intensa attivita' legata all'editoria della moda internazionale che prosegue tuttora. Viene invitato a Tokyo ad esporre al Nagase Photo Salon e la sua opera viene conosciuta anche in Giappone, dove si trasferisce nel 1984.
Lavora per Mamiya Camera, mantenendosi in stretto contatto con il mondo della moda giapponese. Tra il 1989 e il 1993 si sposta tra l'Estremo Oriente e la Nuova Zelanda per realizzare servizi tra moda e documentazione.
Di nuovo in Italia dal 1993, Gianni Pezzani partecipa a diverse esposizioni presso istituzioni pubbliche e private. Tra le piu' importanti: la mostra alla Stazione Leopolda di Firenze del 1997, la retrospettiva dedicatagli dalla Fondazione Magnani Rocca di Parma nel 2000, la mostra 'Viaggi in Giappone' a Palazzo Barolo, Torino, nel 2003, 'I maestri della fotografia' alla Peggy Guggenheim Collection nel 2005, ed alla galleria Hublab di Milano nel 2006 presenta Umus, fotografie oniriche di alberi e boschi.
Nel Maggio 2009 presenta storia di una foresta perduta introdotta da Jacques Le Goff che espone anche in Luglio a Massa Marittima per Toscana Foto Festival
Dal Gennaio al 15 Maggio 2010, infine, ha esposto al palazzo del Governatore a Parma nella grande Mostra NOVE100 diretta dal Carlo Arturo Quintavalle.
Who is Gianni Pezzani
Gianni Pezzani was born in Colorno in 1951 and got closer to photography thanks to his father who was keen on painting and taking pictures. From the Agricultural Sciences studies he learned those chemical elements that he will take up in the darkroom work.
His activity of photographer got started from some researches, first with views of Florence and later in low Parma, elaborating his first selective toning.
This particular operation, a sort of third way between the colour of contemporary photography and the practice of black& white, took his work at the attention of the critics. In 1979 Lanfranco Colombo was the host of his first personal exhibition (Il Diaframma Gallery – Canon of Milan) and in the same year Pezzani offers a first group of images to the CSAC University of Parma.
Only two years later the publisher Time Life selected him among the six most important emergent photographers of the year while the yearbook Photography Year was publishing his portfolio and also was commissioned by Giacinto Gnudi to realize a performing work of the city of Pisa.
In 1982 Gianni Pezzani went to the USA where he took a sequence of images which later were exposed in the Civic Gallery of Modena.
That same year he works in a travelling exhibition on Italian photography that runs the most important galleries of China.
In 1983 he exposed his work by the Gallery of Modern Art of Suzzara and at the same time he started collaborating with Vogue and that was the beginning of an activity linked to international fashion publishing which is still lasting. Later he was invited in Tokyo for an exhibition at the Nagase Photo Salon and his work was known also in Japan where he moved in 1984.
He also worked for Mamiya Camera keeping in contact with the world of Japanese fashion.
Between 1989 and 1993 he moved from Far East to New Zealand in order to make photo sessions for fashion and reportage. In 1993 Gianni Pezzani came back to Italy again. He took part to a lot of exhibitions organized by public and private institutions. Among the most important ones it's possible to quote his exhibition at Stazione Leopolda in Florence in 1997, a retrospective dedicated to him by Foundation Magnani Rocca of Parma in 2000, the exhibition 'Travels in Japan' by Palazzo Barolo in Turin in 2003, the exhibition 'Masters of Photography' by the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in 2005 and in 2006 he exposed at the gallery Hublab of Milan a sequence of dream pictures of trees and woods called Umus.
In May 2009 he presents the story of a lost forest introduced by Jacques Le Goff and which is also exhibited in the month of July by the Toscana Foto Festival of Massa Marittima.
Finally, from January to May 15, 2010 he exhibited in the great show NOVE100 directed by Arturo Carlo Quintavalle by the Governor's Palace of Parma.
Now he lives and works in Milan.
